Stevie Richards Discusses New ECW House Party Mixtape Mod Video Game

Earlier this week Stevie Richards was in a video interview discussing the new “mod” ECW video game titled ECW House Party Mixtape. Here is the video:

This is a “mod” of the Wrestlemania 2000 video game. According to the video’s description:

ECW House Party Mixtape is a fan-made ROM hack of WWF WrestleMania 2000 for the Nintendo 64 that completely transforms the classic AKI wrestling engine into an authentic late-1990s ECW experience. Created by G.M.Spectre, the mod recreates the look, feel, and atmosphere of Extreme Championship Wrestling during its most iconic years.

Players can choose from an extensive roster of ECW legends including Rob Van Dam, Sabu, The Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, Taz, The Dudley Boyz, Rhino, New Jack, Jerry Lynn, Raven, and dozens more, with over seven pages of selectable wrestlers. Every character features custom appearances, entrances, music, movesets, championships, and arenas inspired by the original promotion.

Mod ECW Video Game For N64

This video came out on the Chase Brogan YouTube channel this week. It covers a mod video game for ECW, based on the Wrestlemania 2000 video game based on N64. The thumbnail image of an actual video game cartridge likely is just AI-generated, but that is not yet confirmed.

The game is titled after one of ECW’s events, “House Party”.

We don’t know much about video games which get a “mod”, so we don’t know the legalities of this nor do we know if there are any risks or concerns such as:

  • Whether there is any compensation required to download or obtain this mod version, such as paying in fiat or cryptocurrency
  • Whether the mod is allowed to do this using the likeness of wrestlers and talent
  • If any of the talent, or the estates of those who are deceased, were notified or compensated in any way to be in this mod version of the game
  • If any monies are being generated within the game such as sponsors or affiliate links
  • If there are any technical risks to one’s hardware or identity theft/privacy concerns for downloading this (or any other) video game mod to your PC, phone or other devices

Interestingly, the person who did the mods in order to make this game playable added several well-known ECW wrestlers who weren’t represented in the two original ECW video games: Hardcore Revolution and Anarchy Rulz.

Interviews With Five ECW Alumni For First Video Game

Starting from the second half of 1999 through the months following ECW’s last show, Acclaim Entertainment created the HardcoreRevolution.com website. It was dedicated primarily to promoting the company’s first video game of the same name.

The site had unique content, including interviews with five members of the ECW roster to help promote the game. These were found on the Wayback/Archive.org snapshot of the website; and all copyrights/credits go to the writers and Acclaim.

Tommy Dreamer Interview From 2000 To Promote The Hardcore Revolution Video Game

In early 2000 Tommy Dreamer, seen with the ECW World Tag Team championship belt, did a multiple interviews at the Acclaim Studios to promote the first ECW video game: Hardcore Revolution. The above video is from the Midnight Hustle YouTube channel, and this is the description from that video:

ECW “Innovator of Violence” Tommy Dreamer sits down for a short interview to promote the first ever ECW video game release, Hardcore Revolution – filmed on-location at the Acclaim Video Game studios (2000). A little backstory – both Tommy Dreamer and DieHard Derek were completely mentally and physically drained at the time of the interview. This was scheduled as a full day press event with multiple media outlets there to witness the screen capture with Spike Dudley and The Hardy Boys, as well as a full studio tour showing the process in making the video game. Tommy had been there since early doing dozens of interviews with the media, and DieHard’s production team was having technical difficulties with the equipment, and ultimately had to go back to our studios to swap it out. The day was a bust for us… but fortunately, Acclaim and Tommy Dreamer stuck around until the press event was done so that I could at least walk away with one interview after losing the entire production day. Neither of us were in the best of moods at the time of the interview, nor did we have any gas left in the tank – but here it is, fresh from the vault!

Tommy discusses the bonus characters (including The Original Sheik), the women in the game, the additional “Jobbers” as part of the characters in the game, and the barbed wire match feature. He also discusses talent in the game which could have left ECW by the time the game was released.
