Wrestlers On Terry Funk’s 1997 Wrestle Fest Who Had Never Appeared Yet In ECW

A few days ago, WWE Vault’s YouTube channel added the September 11, 1997 Terry Funk’s Wrestle Fest event. Here is the video (all credits to WWE):

Which wrestlers who appeared on the show, by that point, had never wrestled on any ECW event?

Answer:

Shark Tsuchiya, Lady Cooga, Chris Youngblood, Mark Youngblood, Ricky Romero, Bushwhacker Butch, Bushwhacker Luke, Masato Tanaka, Hayabusa, Jinsei Shinzaki, and then-WWF Champion Bret Hart.

Wrestler Whose Only Match In ECW Was The Company’s First Show

Eastern Championship Wrestling’s first show took place at the Sports Bar in Philadelphia on February 25, 1992. Among all the wrestlers who were in the ring that night, who was the only one to have his only match in ECW that evening?

Answer:

Michael Bruno. He lost to Super Destroyer #1 due to interference from Super Destroyer #2. This was his only match in ECW.

Extreme Fact About Match On ECW’s Last PPV Event

ECW’s last pay per view event, Guilty As Charged, took place on January 7, 2001. Keeping with the “Extreme” name, we found an interesting quote about the “I Quit” match from that night between Tommy Dreamer and CW Anderson.

This Reddit post has a recap of a wrestling newsletter from the week after the last PPV show:

It has an interesting note from Dreamer:

Tommy Dreamer: Actually, that razor wire, we got it from a car dealership. And it’s all, like, circled on top of a fence. We had gotten that, we had sent some of the ring crew out to find razor wire on a Sunday at about 5:00 at night and they cut it off of a fence somewhere in Manhattan. We actually stole something and used it as a prop, and it’s dirty, filthy razor wire and we used it in the match.

We can’t verify if this is true, but if accurate then it shows how the company operated as “Extreme” until its final main show.

Recap Of ECW’s Business Status Heading Into The Final Pay Per View

It is one person’s recap of a pro wrestling newsletter’s coverage of the industry, and these were done over roughly a decade (late 1991 to 2003). The person doing the recaps encouraged all readers to sign up for the actual newsletter in order to get the full archives.

The above post on Reddit highlighted Paul E.’s thoughts on ECW’s business status heading into what became the company’s final pay per view event, Guilty As Charged. The event took place on January 7, 2001.

Here is a snippet from the above Reddit post:

Paul Heyman revealed this week that he’s in serious negotiations to sell either a majority share or possibly all of ECW. He said that he’s recognized the company can’t survive the way things are right now. A few weeks ago, Heyman had talked about scaling ECW back down to a regional promotion but due to the rising costs of syndicated TV, even that isn’t feasible. Heyman said he would be willing to walk away from the business side of ECW if the right offer came along to save the company.  (read the full recap of Paul’s comments through the above link)
